X-Cube 4
A revolutionary product that changed all 4x4 speed-cubes around the world.
A revolutionary product that changed all 4x4 speed-cubes around the world.
Speed-cubing has become more popular these years since more players tried to solve a cube as fast as they can, competitions have been held worldwide. Producers also sought to design smoother and faster cubes to compete for the market. Although the most commonly seen 3x3 Rubik's cube has been well developed and works very fluent, the 4x4 one doesn't.
Difficulties of designing an even-layered speed cube.
Mechanism of a four-layered speed cube is like hiding the middle layer of a five-layered cube inside and make it's out shape looks like a 4x4 one. We can imagine that if we have a 5x5 cube on our hand but we cannot touch the middle layer, it will lead to misalignment of the inner layer which dysfunction other two directions of rotation. Thus cause the cube jams on competition. |

Story of it
I used to be interested in cube mechanisms, I tear down most of my cubes and sometimes tried to change its structure to make it better. When I was in high school, I can only use hand tools to modify it. After I had learned Solidworks in my freshmen year, I began to figure out a new mechanism for even layered cube to solve the problem. To accomplish this, I know I have to keep learning a lot of things includes strengthen my Solidworks skill, learning SLS 3D printing, writing a patent, find manufacturing factory, find sales platform. It took me lots of time to realize it, but after this, I found that I can easily create and make other things base on the skill I learned from this. I take this progress as a metamorphosis for me, which gave me the power to keep creating things.

Controversy with V-Cube and MMAP Mech
While my mechanism and product appeared, we faced controversy with V-Cube company and cube-player MMAP, who claimed my invention had plagiarized their inventions.
Great thanks to CrazyBadCuber, a Canadian cuber, who helped me to produce this video to explain this.
(I am known as XB27 in the cubing community.)
